MVMP / Housing

The main issues discussed at this meeting, arising from the MVMP meeting were the community centre, and the open space. It was felt strongly that if we as a community, are using Hillmoor Street Community Centre (and plan to use it much more), then it should be replaced as part of the development. It should also be pointed out that when booking the community centre, it is clear that it is used widely, and would be missed once gone. It is also central to our community, and the demographic of our group.

At last weeks MVMP meeting, they suggested that it would not be replaced as Pleasley Landmark Centre is nearby. However, it is felt by the people of Pleasley Hill that there is a clear geographical divide between our community, and that of the centre of Pleasley. And that the Landmark Centre mainly serves this other community.  It should also be pointed out that the plans so far presented to us by MVMP / MDC include a “village centre”. This indicates that they too see Pleasley Hill as a separate community. We should therefore have our own community centre. Also, that New England Way, a much smaller community, also has it’s own community centre.

There was also discussion regarding heating of council properties.  The stark contrast between the cost of heating a council property, and a south Yorkshire property with a new combi boiler (last winter: £40 per week vs £40 for the 3 winter months).  With the fact that residents could be in their existing homes for some time yet, with winter just around the corner. And with the increases in fuel costs this year, and little or no increase in incomes, we agreed to press the council to install combi boilers, and to clarify the MDC position on insulation.

Much of the meeting this week revolved around further planning of children’s activities. In addition to further planning of the Halloween and Bonfire night activities, we discussed possible further activities, and fund rising:

  • Days Out, backpacking/hiking;
  • Sponsored events i.e. bike rides & runs etc;
  • Various types of dancing were suggested, with particular focus on Street Dancing;
  • Football tournaments, penalty shoot outs, swimming  and sports days;

As part of the Bonfire night celebrations, it was put forward that entertainment should be provided by local DJ’s and/or bands. And that we could have a Pleasley’s got talent competition.

It was also pointed out that we have had a lot of focus on activities for children, but have not planned anything for adults.

    Hi Robert,

    I would have to confirm this, so don’t take it as the official line, but basically nothing.

    It seems that no one wants to take responsibility for the state of Hillmoor Street. However, it is right in the middle of the proposed development, and if that moves forward as fast as MVMP say it will, then it won’t be there much longer. I don’t know the facts of it, but I believe MDC do not take responsibility for it (why that is so I am not sure).

    I totally agree that it is a discussing situation, and the very fact that it has been left in the state it has for the length of time that it has, is testament to the neglect Pleasley Hill has received from Mansfield District Council, and the very reason this blog exists.

    If you know the details of the history of the street. Such as what MDC have said / done about it in the past, I would be very interested in talking with you.

    According to the latest information from MVMP, the current plan is to retain houses 1-26 (possibly 42) on Hillmoor Street
